Hazel Grove & Torkington (SK7) · five minutes from our yard

Local patios, driveways & fencing in Hazel Grove & Torkington.

Our yard is on Newby Road, so most Hazel Grove jobs are five minutes from where the stone, the digger and the plate compactor live. That means no haulage surcharge, quicker deliveries, and David can call in on his way past if you have a question once the job is finished.

01 · HAZEL GROVE AT A GLANCE

The ground, the houses and the weather on our own doorstep.

We have dug more Hazel Grove gardens than anywhere else, so we know before we arrive what is likely to be under the lawn.

From our yard5 minutesNewby Road to Torkington Road is a short run along the A6, so a forgotten bag of jointing compound is never a lost morning.

SoilStiff boulder clayBrown clay often only a spade’s depth down, with builders’ rubble buried in many estate gardens from when the houses went up.

"Three of our old wooden fence posts snapped in one storm. David replaced the lot with concrete posts set deep in concrete, and we haven’t had to go out in the dark propping up a fence panel since." Lesley Partington, Hazel Grove
04 · FENCES THAT STAY UP

Why we fit concrete posts on Hazel Grove’s windy side.

What goes wrong with timber posts Timber posts rot at ground level, where the wood stays wet. After eight or ten years a strong westerly pushes the panel over and snaps the post at the soil line. On the open ground around Torkington Park and towards Norbury this happens to whole runs at once.
What we build instead Wet-cast reinforced concrete posts, set 600mm deep in concrete, with concrete gravel boards along the bottom so no timber touches the soil. Panels slide into the posts and can be swapped on their own if one is ever damaged. From £130 per metre, all‑in, including taking the old fence away.
