David and Callum dig down 310mm, roll in 250mm of permeable stone, set granite kerbs in concrete and fit a drain where it’s needed. Built so rain soaks through, which means you normally won’t need planning permission.
Square metres are hard to picture on paper, so here are our three most common Cheshire driveway sizes with real dimensions, vehicle scale, and all-in prices (£140/m² for block paving or UV-resin) including the 310mm dig, waste removal, permeable stone base, granite kerbs in concrete, and threshold drainage.

Built permeable (water soaks through), so a front-garden drive normally needs no planning permission. A new dropped kerb is separate: it needs council approval, and we’ll tell you at the survey if you need one.
When car tyres turn on a driveway whose kerbs are only bedded on sand, the outer blocks push outward and wheel tracks start to sink. We excavate 310mm deep, set 100×200mm natural granite setts into a 150mm-deep ST2 concrete race and haunch, and compact 250mm of sub-base in three separate passes.
DAVID MERCER · KERB LEVEL VERIFICATION
A typical 50m² two-car driveway requires excavating 22 tonnes of heavy Cheshire clay. We remove all spoil via licensed grab lorries so skips never block your drive for weeks.
DAY 1: CRACKED, PUDDLE-STAINED TARMAC DRIVEWAY
DAY 6: 310mm SuDS RESIN-BOUND DRIVE + GRANITE SETTS
OPTION A · 60mm BLOCK PAVING
60mm heavy-duty tumbled Tegula or Priora permeable interlocking blocks framed with 100×100mm or 100×200mm silver-grey granite setts and recessed 225mm cast-iron/polypropylene manhole trays.
OPTION B · 18mm ALIPHATIC UV RESIN
Hand-trowelled 18mm UV-stable aliphatic polyurethane resin over a 50mm open-graded macadam binder and 250mm Type 3 permeable stone base. Drains straight through, resists weeds, and the UV-stable resin won’t yellow in the sun.
